Cody Rhodes' WWE WrestleMania Return Involved a Subtle Ocarina of Time Easter Egg - CBR

The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes made his long-awaited return to WWE during the first night of Wrestlemania 38, and Legend of Zelda fans might have heard something familiar during the start of his match.

In the opening moments of his match against Seth Rollins, commentator Corey Graves spoke about Cody's return to the WWE by quoting a couple of lines from the N64 classic The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. A Reddit user posted the audio of Graves' comments and matched it to screenshots from the game, showing how the quotes matched up.

Rhodes is a well-known fan of The Legend of Zelda series. He has not only spoken about the game series numerous times in interviews and on his social media but also used to wrestle in boots with the Triforce logo on the side. Unfortunately, Cody had to retire these boots after receiving a cease and desist letter from Nintendo.

Cody is the son of legendary wrestler and booker Dusty Rhodes and debuted in the WWE in 2007. During his time there, he won the Intercontinental title twice and six different tag-team titles. In 2016 he requested his release from the company after a couple of years of wrestling under the name and character of Stardust, a play on his older brother Dustin's popular Goldust character.

Cody found great success outside of the WWE and became one of the founders and Executive Vice Presidents of a new wrestling company called All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Founded in 2019, AEW quickly became successful and Cody was the first-ever TNT champion, a title he won a further two times. In February, it was announced that Cody and his wife Brandi were to leave AEW, both as wrestlers and executives. After several weeks of rumors, Cody finally returned to WWE at Wrestlemania in Dallas as the secret opponent for Rollins.

Ocarina of Time was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998. It's not only widely considered to be the best game in the Zelda series but also one of the greatest games ever made. The game saw Link travel through time to defeat the evil wizard Ganondorf and save the land of Hyrule. It was later remastered and released for both the Gamecube and 3DS and is also available for the Switch as part of the Nintendo Switch Expansion Pack.

The next game in the Zelda series is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, currently slotted for release in Spring 2023.
