Matt Hardy Wants ROH To Become AEW's Equivalent To NXT - Ringside News

Tony Khan sent the Internet Wrestling Community into a frenzy when he announced the acquisition of Ring of Honor. Khan revealed himself as the new owner of ROH during the March 2nd episode of Wednesday Night Dynamite. He will also book the company, adding even more responsibilities to his overflowing plate. Matt Hardy would like to help.

The AEW head honcho will personally handle the booking for the former Sinclair-owned promotion. ROH will have their return show during the WrestleMania weekend on April 1 in Dallas, Texas. We’re expecting an interesting show.

Matt Hardy is the latest AEW to talk about AEW’s purchase of ROH. Many of the stars in AEW wrestled in ROH in the past and Matt is one of those names. As a matter of fact, the Big Money Matt gimmick originated in ROH.

The 1/2 of the Hardy Boyz discussed ROH under Khan’s leadership on a recent episode of his The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast. Matt wants ROH to be equivalent to be Triple H’s NXT and is open to the idea of working as an agent for the brand.

“I mean, almost nothing shocks me in this day and age, but I thought it was it was pretty epic that Tony Khan bought this and you know, the first thing I heard about it, he said, ‘I got all your footage from ROH,’ which is a total Tony Khan line, but it’s cool. Once again, I think it will ensure that like the Ring of Honor footage, which they did a lot of trailblazing stuff themselves is gonna stay alive, and be circulated, and it will live on forever,

“I would almost guess Ring of Honor will almost be like a developmental for AEW. I feel like ROH would be like our NXT in their old system. I think they’ll have guys that can go work there exclusively and they’ll pull guys up. Also just having two brands like that, if you do it the right way, you can have someone on one brand for a long time, then once they are kind of getting once their programs are played out, you can switch them to the other brands. So it keeps helps keep acts fresh, too.

“I mean, definitely, I think I’m gonna do that in the future without a doubt. I mean, that way I can still be involved and it feels like you still kind of have an active part in pro wrestling even if you physically can’t wrestle that much anymore.”

Matt recently had his contract extended to match his brother Jeff Hardy’s deal with the promotion. Last week’s episode of Dynamite saw the reunion of the Hardy Boyz as Jeff made his much-anticipated debut for Khan’s promotion.

Khan’s acquisition of ROH got tremendous reactions from the wrestling world. AEW star CM Punk said he was happy that Khan and not WWE CEO Vince McMahon had bought ROH.
