High School Sports 3-25 - HOIABC.com

(Heart of Illinois ABC) - Many games were rained out or otherwise postponed due to weather on Friday but we did get a few baseball and softball games in in the Heart of Illinois. Morton baseball dominated every phase in a 12-2 win over Hinsdale South. Meanwhile, it was a double-win day for IVC. The Grey Ghosts beat Tremont 7-4 in baseball while the softball team beat Midland 14-2.

The unofficial indoor state track meets kicked off on Friday with the 1A Illinois Top Times meets at the Shirk Center. We had four area girls take home wins. Tremont’s Cambria Geyer blazed her way to victory in the 60-meter hurdles and also placed 2nd in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Bloomington Central Catholic freshman Sophia Yaklich was the winner in the 400 followed closely by Henry’s Nakeita Kessling. Kessling, though, got her win. She took home a victory in the long jump.

In the boys meet, Bloomington Cornerstone Christian’s Ridge Willard started his defense of his state pole vault title with a victory. He cleared just over 14 feet, 7 inches. Other impressive finishes included Tri-Valley’s Luke Myszka taking 2nd in the 60 hurdles while Elmwood’s Thomas Harmon came in 2nd in the 800, just 11 hundredths of a second off the lead.

The Class 2A and 3A Top Times meets are Saturday at the Shirk Center in Bloomington.
