AEW must involve women entering the Forbidden Door - Daily DDT

There is big news coming on AEW Dynamite when a new signee walks through the often-mentioned Forbidden Door. Tony Khan took to Twitter to make the announcement, generating a lot of buzz for the company late Friday evening. Speculation went rampant around who the person will be, as it rightfully should. However, this is the opening that AEW should lean on and finally allow women to take part in the forbidden door antics.

The surprise signee is going to compete against Isiah Kassidy for a spot in the Face of the Revolution ladder match at AEW Revolution on March 6. That match alone cuts out the opportunity to women to be included in the action. However, that doesn’t mean AEW should not look at better leveraging the talent across the world that they have access to for such situations in the future.

In many ways, they already have used women as a part of their cross-promotional practices. Remember, Thunder Rosa was signed to NWA when she originally began appearing in AEW. Maki Ito was not contracted with the company either when she took part in multiple matches.

As the focus turned to Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, and Good Brothers as the main acts bouncing from promotion to promotion, fans wanted to see the women involved in some fashion. Imagine the response if there was a match pitting Deonna Purrazzo against Britt Baker, or even just a segment with the two women facing off. There are so many exceptional acts in Japan that fans would recognize if they were brought over to AEW for matches with some of the best women on the roster.

Even Kamille, NWA World Women’s Champion has shown face on AEW’s product and would draw headlines if featured in a match.

Regardless of the talent that is available around the wrestling industry, fans have made it clear that AEW missed the opportunity to have women more involved when the work with other promotions began. Khan has promised there’s more to come so he should make a concerted effort to make sure that more women are included, especially as the talent in the AEW women’s division continues to show they are up to the challenge.

Adblock test (Why?)
