(Heart of Illinois ABC) - It’s been 26 years since Normal West volleyball last appeared in the state final four. That streak came to an end on Friday as the Wildcats competed in a state semifinal matchup against Belvidere North. But despite a valiant effort, Normal West dropped the semifinal matchup in two sets. They’ll play Joliet Catholic for a chance to finish third in the state on Saturday at 4:00 at Redbird Arena.

Meanwhile, it was a very special day at Pontiac as 2018 IHSA Class 1A State Champion Dani Grace Schrock officially signed her letter of intent to golf at Illinois State next year where she’ll be reunited with her sister, Ali, another former state champ, who also golfs for the Redbirds.

In football, five area teams are preparing for the state quarterfinals. In 5A, Morton has a chance to advance to their first-ever state semifinal as they take on Mahomet-Seymour on Saturday at 1:00. In 6A, Washington will look for some revenge when they host Crete-Monee. The Warriors beat the Panthers in the quarterfinals in 2018. In 2A, it’s a dream matchup of two local teams as unbeaten Farmington visits unbeaten Tri-Valley for a chance to advance to the state semifinals. And in 1A, the Ridgeview-Lexington Mustangs look to keep on surprising teams as they host unbeaten A-Town on Saturday.
