Bobby Lashley Throws Shade At AEW, Says WWE Doesn't Have Any 'Serious Competition'

Without mentioning them by name, WWE Superstar Bobby Lashley has seemingly thrown some major shade at All Elite Wrestling by implying that WWE doesn't have any serious competition.

Lashley fired a shot during a recent chat with DAZN. The former WWE Champion was discussing the current state of the industry, and while he did acknowledge that while the market is competitive, he also said implied that no other company poses a threat to WWE.

I think there’s a lot of competition," Lashley said. "I think we’re doing some big things, and we’re moving into a big season for us, with some big news coming around. I think that it’s a good time to be a wrestling fan, and it’s a good time for a wrestler with a good time to step up for everyone," he continued. "Everybody always says competition is good. I don’t think really we have any serious competition."

Lashley added that the other promotions are forcing WWE to step up its game, which is ultimately a good thing for the consumer. "But the fans like it, the fans like the fact that there are other things going on that forces us to step up,” he said.

As you might recall, Lashley's boss Vince McMahon is also on record as saying that he doesn't consider AEW a threat to WWE's business. "I don't consider [AEW] competition in the way I considered WCW back in the day," McMahon said, referring to the now-defunct World Championship Wrestling during the second-quarter earnings call with WWE shareholders on Thursday, July 29. "Not even anywhere near close to that."

Later in the earnings call, Vince questioned AEW's talent investment methods and took a shot at the fact that many members of its roster are former WWE Superstars.

"I’m not sure where their investments are. When it comes to their talent, perhaps we could give them some more," he said.

As we previously reported, AEW president Tony Khan disagrees with the notion that AEW is not a threat to WWE.
