DAZN the sports streaming service with a subscription, has hired Ian Turnbull, a former executive of Entain, as its new EVP of Betting and Gaming, as the company tries to expand its involvement in the industry.

Turnbull’s career in the betting and gaming industry included stints as Microgaming’s Services Director and, most notably, as Head of B2B at Entain – prior to its rebrand to its current corporate identity, at the time known as GVC Holdings – where he collaborated with MGM Resorts on the development of the US-focused BetMGM brand.

Amplify offerings

The new hire’s expertise, according to DAZN, would help the company “amplify our offerings around the world, giving sports fans the best end-to-end experience on one platform.”

As part of DAZN’s senior management team, Turnbull joins fellow former Entain employee Shay Segev, who served as CEO of the FTSE100 operator.

In January of this year, Segev left the Ladbrokes and Coral operator to join the OTT platform as its “joint-chief executive.”

Improved ties

DAZN has also revealed plans to appoint a new VP of Product for its wagering section in order to improve its ties with the sports betting sector.

On DAZN’s website, the job description for the role read: “DAZN has been changing how the world consumes sports for the past five years and we are now embarking on an exciting new stage of our journey.

“As our VP of Product, your goal will be to capitalise on the unique opportunity that DAZN has right now: to establish a truly world class betting proposition alongside premier sports rights in some of the most exciting markets in the world.”

DAZN’s growing involvement in the sports betting business complements the company’s strong position in the media and broadcasting space, where it has a large portfolio of boxing fights.

Its current coverage includes a number of high-profile fights thanks to a contract it signed with Matchroom Boxing earlier this year, and it has also expressed interest in acquiring BT Sport and the Premier League’s rights.
