Trevor Lawrence’s 52-yard pass to Laviska Shenault Jr. was historically awesome

Through the first three weeks of the 2021 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars have not been shy about letting first-overall pick Trevor Lawrence turn it loose with the deep ball. Per Pro Football Focus, Lawrence was tied with Aaron Rodgers and Mac Jones with 16 attempts of 20 or more air yards, fourth-most in the league. And on those 16 deep attempts, Lawrence had completed six passes for 162 yards, three touchdowns, three interceptions, and a passer rating of 75.5.

Kind of a mixed bag, but not bad for a rookie who hasn’t always benefited from the most expansive passing game.

But the connection Lawrence had with receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. with 2:23 left in the first half was as good a throw as you’ll see this season.

Lawrence did a great job of rolling to his right, setting his feet, squaring his shoulders to the target, and uncorking one heck of a throw. Cornerback Trae Waynes, who missed the entire 2020 season with a torn pectoral muscle and didn’t play in the first three weeks of the 2021 season with hamstring issues, was the innocent bystander here.

How great was this throw with its combination of running speed and passing depth? Historically so.

The Jaguars led the Bengals 14-0 at the half. It was the first time Jacksonville shut out an opponent on the road since Week 7 of the 2017 season against the Indianapolis Colts. The Jaguars haven’t won a game since Week 1 of the 2020 season, but so far, so good.

Belichick has great response to stories in Wickersham book originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Bill Belichick didn't hesitate to address the excerpts from Seth Wickersham's tell-all book on the New England Patriots dynasty.

Wickersham, a senior writer for ESPN, compiled a number of anecdotes detailing the behind-the-scenes drama within the organization. Titled  "It's Better To Be Feared," the upcoming book covers everything from Malcolm Butler's mysterious Super Bowl benching to the tension between Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft and Belichick nearly coming to blows with Eric Mangini after Spygate.

Most memorable homecomings ahead of Brady's return to New England

Belichick perfectly reacted to Wickersham's bombshells at the start of his Wednesday press conference.

“Good morning. What’s going on? Any stories this week?” the Patriots head coach quipped.

Well played, Bill.

Belichick also refuted the claims made in Wickersham's book, including one that stated Belichick declined to meet Brady in person after the longtime Patriots QB left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"I've heard a few things about this book and it sounds like it's a lot of second, third and fourth-hand comments," he said.

"It's Better To Be Feared" is set to be released on Oct. 12.

Eurovision Sport in pioneering joint venture with International Ski Mountaineering ...

ISMF

Eurovision Sport has agreed a pioneering new joint venture with the International Ski Mountaineering Federation to screen, promote and commercialise the exciting, rising sport of ski mountaineering, as it heads towards inclusion in the Winter Olympic Games for the first time at the games in Milan-Cortina in 2026.

Under the new, five-year agreement, Eurovision Sport plans the production and live streaming of selected races at up to nine events per season, beginning with the forthcoming 2021-22 season. This will be backed by additional near-live content and background stories to help build awareness of the sport.

The events comprise: seven World Cups; one European Championships; and, potentially, one exhibition event. The 2021-22 calendar is made up of events in Italy, Switzerland, Andorra, Turkey, Spain and France, totalling 24 live-streamed competitions.

The agreement is divided into two parts:

  • an initial, two-year cycle (2021-22 and 2022-23) during which Eurovision Sport will co-operate with ISMF to build a commercial model for the sport through the exploitation and development of its worldwide media and marketing rights;
  • and a second, three-year cycle (2023-24 to 2025-26) in which Eurovision Sport will also help to build and optimize the ski mountaineering calendar for increased exposure.

For Eurovision Sport and EBU Members, the agreement represents another important step towards developing and exploiting Members’ huge digital strengths. Ski mountaineering will enrich the EBU’s live-streaming offer – providing fresh content for all the parties involved.

Meanwhile, the agreement illustrates Eurovision Sport’s ambition to take an innovative, digital-native approach towards up-and-coming sports. The cooperation model will embrace all channels and new audio/video consumption trends on a live and on-demand basis.

For ISMF, the agreement offers a huge increase in exposure for the sport on its journey towards Olympic inclusion, through EBU Members’ exploitation of the free-for-all live stream offering.

The fast-growing sport of ski mountaineering (‘skimo’ for short), with Europe as its heartland, comprises men’s and women’s team and individual disciplines, plus a mixed relay event, involving racing over a series of ascents and descents, either carrying or wearing skis, towards a downhill finish.

Ski mountaineering made its debut as a medal sport at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne in 2020, and was accepted by the IOC as a new Winter Olympic sport, debuting at the Milan-Cortina games in 2026, during the IOC Session in Tokyo in July this year.

Glen Killane, Executive Director of Eurovision Sport, said: “We are delighted to reach agreement with ISMF. Eurovision Sport, together with its Members, will apply an innovative, digital-first approach to a fast-rising sport. The agreement also represents a golden opportunity for Eurovision Sport to drive forward its agenda for sustainability and gender equality through cross-promotion with a sport that is noted for these qualities.”

Thomas Kähr, the ISMF President, said: “We are convinced that the new partnership will allow us to take the media reach of our races to a significantly higher level. Eurovision Sport, with its international broadcasting and online network, will be able to offer efficient multimedia services in close co-operation with our marketing department. Our main partners, such as the local race organizers and our commercial partners as well as the skimo athletes, will benefit from the increased visibility on all relevant communication channels.”

Phillies vs. Braves: Phils a loss away from playoff elimination

Phillies on death's doorstep as Braves put the champagne on ice originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

The showdown in Atlanta has turned into a mow down of Phillies hitters.

For the second night in a row, Atlanta Braves pitching was just too tough for the Phillies to handle.

And for the second night in a row, this withering ballclub moved closer to having the lights go out on its season.

The Phils suffered a 7-2 loss to the Braves on Wednesday night. It was their third loss in a row and second straight to the first-place Braves, who lowered their magic number for clinching a fourth straight National League East title to one.

The Braves can wrap up the division and eliminate the Phillies from contention by winning the series finale Thursday night.

It all seems likely given the way the Phillies are swinging the bats. They've scored just three runs the last three games and two of them have been unearned.

The Phils have produced just eight hits in the two games in Atlanta. Odubel Herrera has four of them. MVP candidate Bryce Harper has none. He has five strikeouts in the first two games of the series and popped out with men on second and third in the eighth inning Wednesday night.

The burden of carrying the team throughout the second half might be catching up with Harper.

"I think Bryce has probably had a weight on his shoulders for a long, long time," manager Joe Girardi said. "He's been so good for so long, he's bound to run into a day or two. He's been carrying a lot of weight for a long time."

The Phillies have not been to the postseason since 2011. It's the longest drought in the NL. They also have not had a winning season since 2011. With four games left, they are 81-77. They need one more win to ensure a winning season.

But a winning season was a minimal expectation for this team, which has a $205 million payroll and features legitimate candidates for the Cy Young and MVP awards, and it will be little consolation, if any, for seeing the postseason drought reach a decade.

The Phillies won eight in a row to take a two-game lead in the NL East on August 8. They proceeded to lose 11 of 15 and squander the lead to the Braves, who now lead the division by 4½ games

"We have to win every game and we need a lot of help," Girardi said.

Sweeping this series in Atlanta then finishing strong in Miami figured to be the Phillies' only hope in the final week of the season. But they have gone to Atlanta and watched their offense stumble. The Phils had just three singles in a 2-1 loss in the series opener Tuesday night. Wednesday night, they scored just two runs and one was unearned.

Lefty Max Fried followed up Charlie Morton's seven shutout innings Tuesday night with a strong outing Wednesday night. He held the Phils to four hits over seven innings. He walked none and struck out six, including Harper three times.

Jean Segura, Harper, J.T. Realmuto and Andrew McCutchen, the Phils' No. 2 through 5 hitters, were 0 for 12 against Fried.

"We just didn't do much against him," Girardi said.

Aaron Nola struggled early but ended up delivering six innings of three-run ball to keep his club in the game. He labored in the first inning, throwing 25 pitches, and gave up three hits and two runs. He allowed another run in the third on a two-out double by Eddie Rosario.

All of the seven hits that Nola allowed came with two strikes on the batter and two were on 0-2 counts. He has allowed 83 hits with two strikes, the most in the majors. As a team, the Phillies have allowed 511 two-strike hits, second-most in the majors to Arizona.

Putting away hitters is a big problem for this team

"We have to be better," Girardi said. "We just have to be better."

The Phils eked out a run in the sixth to make it a 3-2 game, but the Braves tagged the Phillies' bullpen for four runs in the seventh. In that inning, relievers Jose Alvarado, Hector Neris and Sam Coonrod combined to allow four hits and three walks. Herrera also made a costly error in center field.

So, in a lot of ways, this loss was a microcosm of the Phillies' season: One rough inning for Nola, poor defense, poor bullpen work and spotty offense.

Nola took the loss. He is not scheduled to start again this season. He will finish an overall disappointing season 9-9 with a 4.63 ERA in 32 starts. The Phils were just 15-17 in his starts.

"Not that great, honestly," was Nola's assessment of his season.

Kyle Gibson will start against Ian Anderson in Thursday night's series finale.

The lights are almost out on the Phillies and the Braves have the champagne on ice.

Dan Lambert started American Top Team in 2001. His aim was to provide fighters with world-class facilities to get all the MMA fighters their training under one roof.

Over the years, American Top Team has been the home of some of the best fighters in the world. The reigning UFC Women's Bantamweight and Featherweight Champion, Amanda Nunes, is currently a part of ATT. She has also been spotted at an AEW show alongside Dan Lambert.

We can't figure out what we dislike more, Dan Lambert's hatred of brunch or the fact it looks like he's always bitten into a lemon

Some of the most notable fighters to make it out of the gym include Andrei Arlovski and Junior dos Santos, both former UFC heavyweight champions. They have appeared on AEW in recent weeks, as well.

Current WWE Champion Bobby Lashley is another notable name to have made it out of American Top Team. The team also got themselves involved when the former WWE Champion was part of IMPACT Wrestling.

Other notable fighters from ATT include Dustin Poirier, Tyron Woodley, Yoel Romero, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, and more.

Are Dan Lambert and American Top Team moving to AEW?

Over the past few months, Dan Lambert has gotten highly involved in AEW. He, alongside his ATT fighters, has constantly been appearing on the promotion's programs.

On AEW programming, Dan Lambert paired up with the Men of the Year, Ethan Page, and Scorpio Sky. At AEW Rampage: Grand Slam, the two men defeated Chris Jericho and Jake Hager from the Inner Circle.

However, it was after the match when ATT's Jorge Masvidal caught everybody's attention. 'Gamebred' and other ATT fighters surrounded Jericho and Hager in the ring. The reigning BMF Champion would then hit Jericho with his infamous running, flying knee and took out the former AEW World Champion.

Masvidal's knee strike became famous after the UFC welterweight knocked out Ben Askren in a similar fashion within 5 seconds of their UFC 239 showdown.

Eric Bischoff Explains Why AEW Vs. WWE Is “Not Really A War Yet” - Wrestling Inc.

The wrestling world was put on notice last Wednesday night on AEW Dynamite when the show started off with Bryan Danielson and Kenny Omega in one of the greatest television wrestling matches ever. After the match ended in a time-limit draw, both Danielson and Omega have shared their own personal responses to the situation, Bryan asking for a rematch while Omega saying he won’t give him one.

Some people shared criticism about the fact that AEW was giving this match away for free on TNT rather than saving it for a pay per view, but former WCW President Eric Bischoff was not one of them. Bischoff’s positivity towards AEW having the match on free television came as a surprise due to the fact that he received criticism back in the day over his decision to air Hulk Hogan vs. Goldberg for the WCW Championship on TNT.

Bischoff continued to speak about Danielson vs. Omega on the latest episode of the 83 Weeks Podcast where he detailed how the aftermath of the match will give AEW a nice pay per view match down the line. The WWE Hall of Famer also highlighted how AEW still has a lot of ground to cover if they want to start the next wrestling war, but that AEW Grand Slam week was a step in the right direction.

“I thought it was brilliant to put it on free tv,” Bischoff said. “Look, much like WCW was, at this point and stage of their evolution, AEW is primarily a television company and television drives pay per view and vice versa. As AEW is continuing to grow their audience, which they are, what better way to continue to grow that audience for your foundation for the future [than putting the match on free television]?

“They’re still not even half of a decent rating on SmackDown. They’re probably only about 65% of a decent rating on RAW. They’ve got ground to cover. What better way to cover or begin to cover it by bringing in Bryan Danielson and Kenny Omega and putting it on free tv? They’re going to make their money on pay per view, especially with that [time limit draw] finish down the road. But as an investment, what a fantastic way to open up that show.”

During the time NXT and AEW were going head to head on Wednesday nights, Bischoff was very critical of people comparing AEWs success to WWE’s C-show. The former WCW President also shared criticism about how everyone compares the success of WWE and AEW through the lens of the 18-49 age demographic for viewership of each show when it doesn’t tell the whole story.

“I think if you’re an executive in a media buying company or advertising agency, I think [the 18-49 demographic] matters,” Bischoff noted. “To the rest of the world, it doesn’t mean two sh**s. But it is something that everybody can pat themselves on the back for, I’m talking about AEW supporters and fans. I’m not knocking it by the way, I’m excited that everybody is excited. But when somebody asks me what do you think about the focus [on the 18-49 demographic], it’s primarily driven by the internet wrestling community and people that write for it.

“It’s not new, it’s been that way since I made the decision to go after the 18-49 male demo. Not because I was brilliant but because I knew there was no way I was going to beat WWE at what WWE was doing back before Nitro launched. 18-49 has always been important. Today it’s so much of a conversation because it’s a line item that those who are anti-WWE and pro-AEW can go, yeah, but AEW beat WWE in the demo. Big f***in deal, AEW on Wednesday night with no real competition for 18-49 gets a higher percentage of a demo than Monday Night RAW going head to head with Monday Night Football where the vast majority of the 18-49 year olds that watch wrestling also watch football. It’s like me getting into a fist fight with Mike Tyson’s kid and coming out on top of that. I’m just making this up, and if he did or he does, and I were to mop the floor with that 16-18 year old kid, that’s like me walking around saying I beat the sh** out of Tyson.”

Bischoff continued to talk about the Wednesday Night Wars and the issues he had with so many people wanting to compare WWE’s developmental show to AEWs full roster. He also talked about how he hasn’t heard any criticism thrown AEWs way for getting beaten by Friday Night SmackDown now that AEW has Rampage on Friday nights.

“It was the very best lineup on AEWs roster against the developmental squad [of WWE],” Bischoff said. “Not really competition, folks. That’s not the same thing, but everybody wants there to be, and I do too. I’m one of you, but all of us want there to be that Monday Night War vibe. We want that as fans because it was fun and history has taught us that it actually raises the tide and everybody’s boat floats higher when it happens, so we want that. But it’s not really a war yet.

“AEW on a Friday Night is at a very big disadvantage in terms of comparing it to apples to apples, but let’s just go back to the comparison that everybody likes to make. It’s okay when people who write about ratings and talk about 18-49 like it’s the end all be all and it’s not, it’s one component and an important one but it’s not, trust me, when it comes to revenue. Since people like Bryan Alvarez were so excited comparing AEW the A-team vs. NXT the C-team, let’s then do the same thing [on Friday night’s]. If that’s how we’re going to contextualize this battle, what about the fact that SmackDown delivered the week before, more viewers in the demo than AEW had for total viewers? People two years old and above, that’s kind of a big deal but nobody talked about that. Nobody wants to make that kind of comparison because, well, that doesn’t look good.”

MJF mentions WWE Senior Vice President Bruce Pritchard on Wednesday's AEW Dynamite -

During Wednesday night’s Dynamite on TNT, MJF mentioned WWE Senior Vice President Bruce Pritchard in his promo in which he said he deserves to be World Champion.

Below is the excerpt from last night’s Dynamite with MJF from Josh Boutwell’s Dynamite recap below:

MJF comes out to Tony Schiavone’s annoyance. MJF says he wants AEW to be successful and he will do whatever it takes to make that happen but only as long as he is given what he deserves. MJF says that AEW keeps building more and more momentum and there are several young men that have helped build AEW in the future. He calls Sammy Guevara, Jungle Boy, Darby Allin and MJF the pillars of AEW and says he beat the others.

MJF says without him AEW “ain’t shit” and he deserves to be World Champion. MJF says that Tony Khan is in his Top 2 of “Khans in professional wrestling” but if Khan doesn’t give him what his wants he will pull out his good friend Bruce Prichard’s phone number and call him up.

Darby Allin interrupts MJF and MJF makes fun of his “school shooter mime on a skateboard” routine. Allin tells MJF to shutup and tells him to leave if he wants to go somewhere else and gets what he wants and no one would care. Allin says he is AEW until death and reminds MJF that he’s the only one of the two to have won a championship in AEW.

MJF makes fun of Allin’s “Batman voice” and then talks about Allin being straight edge and asks if anyone knows why he is straight edge. MJF talks about his drunk uncle getting in a car accident with Allin in the car and the fact that his uncle died. MJF says it’s a travesty because the wrong man died that night. Allin says that MJF can’t break him and then asks what MJF is going to do now and MJF gets pissed and leaves as Punk on commentary says that the bully doesn’t know what to do when someone stands up to him.

WWE News: Lash Leroux on working with Hulk Hogan - Sportskeeda

Former WCW Tag Team Champion Lash LeRoux recently spoke of getting an endorsement from the Immortal Hulk Hogan.

On the latest episode of Sportskeeda Wrestling's UnSKripted podcast, LeRoux mentioned that he had grown up watching Hulkamania run wild in the WWE during the late 80s.

The former WCW Tag Champ added that he always felt Hogan was a huge star and deserved every bit of admiration in the business. LeRoux recalled that Hogan was very polite and down to earth with him. It was a big deal for him to get that sort of appreciation from a superstar like Hulk Hogan.

"It was tremendous for me, man. I always thought that he was tremendous. He was a superstar that deserved to be treated like a superstar. Of course, I grew up being a big Hulk Hogan fan. So it was awesome for me to meet him. Someone that I idolized when I was younger. Even more so, he was always down to earth to me. He was really cool to me, very good to me," LeRoux said.

You can watch the full video here:

Lash LeRoux thanked Hulk Hogan for calling him an up-and-coming wrestler in WCW

LeRoux recalled when Hulk Hogan put him over as one of the top rookies in WCW. In an interview, Hogan touted Billy Kidman and Lash LeRoux as two rookies to watch out for.

LeRoux was so overwhelmed by this gesture that he thanked Hogan for giving him the rub during a show.

"In fact, he was interviewed one time in a magazine and I probably took this more seriously than I should have, but he mentioned some of the up and coming guys. And he mentioned by name Billy Kidman and Lash LeRoux. And man, that was one of the largest compliments I could have gotten in my life. I thought I was on his radar. And I went up to him the next time I saw him at a show and thanked him for going out of his way to mention me," LeRoux said.

Tyson Fury refuses to mock Anthony Joshua after Oleksandr Usyk defeat | DAZN News Brunei

Tyson Fury refused to goad Anthony Joshua over his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk and said he was ‘absolutely wounded’ that his fellow Briton lost.

Fury had originally been slated to fight Joshua for the chance to become the undisputed heavyweight champion in Saudi Arabia this year.

However Deontay Wilder was able to force a trilogy rematch for October 9 and any fight between the two UK fighters required them to defend their belts.

Joshua has failed and while Fury remains favourite against Wilder, any undisputed clash between any two fighters now appears a way off.

Speaking to reports in an online conference call, Fury explained that he was focusing on his own task at hand but he had no wish to insult Joshua as he had done when he was riding high.

“I can’t be thinking about what happened in other fights,” Fury explained.

“I can only think about me. I know it’s selfish, but it’s a very selfish game that I’m in. So, I haven’t really thought about Usyk or Joshua. One thing I will say, though, while everyone’s listening, is I’ve got no interest in slating anybody, you know, or kicking anybody while they’re down.

“It ain’t my style. I like to pick on someone who’s doing well, successful, on top of the game. I don’t like picking on people who are down and probably at their lowest point and probably mentally unstable or unwell, when they’ve lost after such a long reign.

“So, you know, Usyk done his job. He had to do what he had to do. And that’s that. And Joshua’s gotta do what he’s gotta do. But like I said, none of my real business. Can’t say I’m interested because I’ve got ‘The Bronze Bomber’ to deal with. And then whoever’s next, we’ll deal with them, just like I’ve done with my other 31 opponents I’ve already faced.”

The WBC champion also admitted that he was disappointed to see the defeat, presumably in part because it costs him what could have been tens of millions of pounds for any undisputed fight with Joshua.

“He won his fight. Good luck to him. There’s not much to express. Did I watch the fight? Yes, I did. Was I absolutely wounded that he won? Yes, I was,” he admitted.

“I was hoping Joshua could win the fight, but he couldn’t, and that’s none of my business.”

Anthony Joshua has more than enough to defeat Oleksandr Usyk, claims Lawrence Okolie - DAZN

The WBO cruiserweight champion was speaking to the DAZN Boxing Show

Lawrence Okolie believes that Anthony Joshua has ‘more than what it takes to win the rematch’ against Oleksandr Usyk.

Okolie fought and beat DIlan Prasovic on the undercard of the heavyweight title fight to successfully defend his WBO cruiserweight belt, while Joshua was well beaten by Usyk to cede his IBF, WBA and WBO titles.

Joshua has exercised an immediate rematch clause ‘in principle’ according to Usyk’s representatives, and speaking to the DAZN Boxing Show, Okolie suggested that a chastening defeat is an opportunity for the beaten fighter.

“It's very different sparring four southpaws and fighting Usyk for 12 rounds,” he explained.

“I don't think there's massive changes he needs to make. Once you humble yourself, not saying he's not humble, but once you humble yourself and understand, ‘I'm not going to be the most technical boxer, so I'm not going to do a jab and jab and slip and slip with someone. I'm going to go now, this is what I've got over my opponent, this is what he has over me, this is what I need to implement over my opponent. And this is what I need to stop him from doing.’

“Once he's able to get that, I think he's got more than what it takes to win the rematch.”

Oleksandr Usyk is the best I ever faced, says Tony Bellew | DAZN News US

The former world cruiserweight champion made the claim on the DAZN Boxing Show

Tony Bellew praised Oleksandr Usyk as ‘the best fighter I’ve ever faced’ after he defeated Anthony Joshua at the weekend.

Bellew retired after losing to Usyk in a cruiserweight title fight, and the Ukrainian eventually moved into the heavyweight division in pursuit of more belts. He now holds the IBF, IBO, WBA and WBO belts, with only The Ring and the WBC titles held by another fighter, Tyson Fury.

Fury has previously been identified as the only boxer with the speed and strength to be the clear favourite against Usyk but that could be in doubt after his impressive showing against Joshua.

Speaking on the DAZN Boxing Show, Bellew explained how Usyk’s intelligence leaves him poised for victory against others.

Usyk, Bellew said, is, “Literally watching you for the first three rounds, every reaction and move you make, it everything he does, he absorbs it like a computer and then he flips it around and he makes you look at yourself, and all this time you're thinking throughout the bout.”

Bellew thinks the mental energy spent Joshua dealing Usyk left him fatigued by the championship rounds.

“So by the time Joshua got to the end of the 11th time he was completely mentally exhausted,” he explained.

“And he showed a serious set of plums to go after that 12th round because exhaustion had seriously kicked in - he's a hard fighter to beat. He's just he's really, really good at what he does, the best fighter I’ve ever faced by a country mile.”

Notre Dame vs Cincinnati Game Preview

Why Cincinnati Will Win

Desmond Ridder (probably) won’t throw four interceptions.

Wisconsin has a better defense than Cincinnati does, but it didn’t have the NFL-caliber quarterback with the mobility and downfield passing arm that Ridder brings to his date with the Irish.

Notre Dame still has the same problems it had before and during the blowout win over the Badgers, and the Bearcats can exploit them.

Did the Irish O line get better over the last week? Probably not. It’s talented, but it needs more time and seasoning – it’s not great in pass protection.

Is the running game going to be stronger and more consistent? Probably not.

Can the Irish win this by throwing the ball? Cincinnati has come up with six interceptions in the last two games, and Notre Dame QB Jack Coan is still hobbling – but he’s expected to play.

The Bearcats have the offensive line to hold up against the great Notre Dame defensive front, the D has been a rock in the red zone, and …

Week 5 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Notre Dame Will Win

Back it all up for a moment.

Yeah, the Irish offensive front has been an issue, but Cincinnati’s D doesn’t get into the backfield. In the first three games it only has four sacks and 19 tackles for loss – it’s not going to jump on Jack Coan’s head like the Badger D did.

Yeah, Ridder probably isn’t going to screw up like Mertz did – more like he’ll be put in better situations than the Badger quarterback found himself in – but he’s not above turning the ball over. He threw two picks in the opener against Miami University.

Yeah, Cincinnati is 3-0 and ranked in the top ten, but … Miami University, Murray State, and Indiana? Oooooooooooh – and the Bearcats were struggling against a meh Hoosier team until late.

Yeah, Notre Dame has struggled a bit too much, it didn’t do anything over the first three games to suggest it was anything special, and it was down in the fourth quarter against Wisconsin before the epic avalanche.

It has an incredible defensive front, safety Kyle Hamilton might be the best safety in college football, and for all the flaws on offense, the team is 4-0 against three Power Five programs including two in the Big Ten.

Week 5 College Football Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

The winner of this game will be the darling of the College Football Playoff prediction crowd until something else happens.

For Notre Dame, a win will get thrown in the bucket with all the big-time programs still to play and coming off the terrific win over Wisconsin in Soldier Field.

For Cincinnati, this is it. After this it’s all American Athletic Conference programs the rest of the way – style points will count here, assuming it’s a win.

The Bearcats will come out roaring. They’ll play like a rested team that’s been waiting for this chance to make a giant playoff statement, but the Irish will settle in.

Neither side will do much for the running game, but the Notre Dame defense will start to take over as the game goes on, it’ll force a key turnover – not the bazillion it got against Wisconsin, but a big one – and it’ll be just enough to be the spark to take the momentum.

Once again, it won’t be a perfect performance, but 5-0 will be 5-0.
