Michael Conlan still wants Brandon Figueroa vs. Stephen Fulton Jr. winner in eventual world title fight

Conlan's next fight is likely to be for a world championship.

Michael Conlan's assured performance over 12 rounds to take a wide decision win over TJ Doheny in Belfast on Friday is likely to ensure his next professional bout will be a challenge for a world championship.

And with the Rio 2016 Olympian comfortable with fighting at both super-bantamweight and featherweight, his options are open.

In an interview with The Belfast Telegraph, Conlan admitted his top priority is perhaps one of the biggest challenges available to him.

Stephen Fulton and Brandon Figueroa are set to clash next month in a unification bout with the WBA, WBC and WBO super-bantam belts all at stake.

And Conlan wants a piece of that action.

“I’m still looking to fight the winner of Stephen Fulton and Brandon Figueroa,” he confirmed. “The 126 (featherweight belt) just came up but I can fluctuate between both.

“I’m a giant at both weights. I’m big at 126 but I’m even bigger at 122 so the opportunities are there in both decisions and I’m happy to take them.

“I won’t think what the plan is now. Jamie (Conlan, brother and manager) and Adam (Booth, trainer) are the bosses. I’m going to go away on a holiday next Thursday and enjoy life again.”

Conlan's promoter Bob Arum said at the start of the year he would like to conclude 2021 with the Belfast man challenging for a world title at Madison Square Garden, if the COVID-19 pandemic had subsided in time.

And with a large crowd packing Falls Park for his win on Friday, optimism will be high that a super-bantamweight superfight can be booked for MSG in December or early 2022, if need be.
