Josh Taylor beat Jose Ramirez because he saved his energy, explains Jorge Linares

The Venezuelan is set to fight Devin Haney this weekend and appeared on the DAZN Boxing Show.

Jorge Linares thinks that Jose Ramirez was too aggressive against Josh Taylor, and that was what caused his downfall.

Taylor became the undisputed super lightweight champion last Saturday when he vanquished Ramirez, and as he grew into the fight he was able to send his Mexican opponent to the canvas twice, first in the sixth round and then in the seventh.

One notable uppercut came when Ramirez failed to keep his guard when a clinch broke up, and Venezuelan fighter Linares suggested that Ramirez had used up his energy early on in the bout.

“You need to be very smart,” he said to the DAZN Boxing Show of his fight preparation for his upcoming title fight with WBC champion Devin Haney, shown globally on DAZN on May 29.

“That’s why I liked that fight with Taylor and Ramirez. [Taylor] was waiting for all his punches already, because Ramirez likes to be inside and he was tired in four rounds.

“He lost all the energy and that’s why ‘boom!’”

Taylor is now hoping to make a fight against Terence Crawford in Scotland, though Teofimo Lopez also appears ready to make a fight as he could step up from 135lbs in search of more belts.
