The Baltimore Orioles swept the Red Sox in a season-opening three-game series over the weekend, plunging Boston to the bottom of the AL East standings. In the losses, the Sox managed just five total runs.

Right-hander Nick Pivetta, whom Boston acquired in a mid-season trade with the Philadelphia Phillies last summer, is expected to take the mound for Monday in an attempt to help his team halt the early skid. Michael Wacha is scheduled to oppose Pivetta as the Rays’ probable starter.

Tampa took two of three from the Miami Marlins to begin 2021 with a series win and hit five home runs in the process. Outfielder Austin Meadows belted two out of the park, while Manuel Margot led the Rays with four hits in the series.

Michael Wacha, an All-Star in 2015, struggled last season as a member of the New York Mets, posting a career-worst 6.62 earned run average over seven starts. He signed a free agent contract with the Rays in hopes of bouncing back and helping an American League contender return to the World Series.
