Shaq Is The Greatest Celebrity Wrestler Of All Time, Says Tony Khan

AEW president Tony Khan has touted basketball icon and former NBA center Shaquille O'Neal as the greatest celebrity wrestler of all time.

Shaq is now affiliated with AEW given his employment with TNT but he's had a long history with the industry, having made appearances for WWE, as well as for other promotions. Khan was interviewed by Sports Illustrated this week and was full of praise for the former Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat big man.

“Shaq is the greatest celebrity wrestler of all time,” Khan noted. “Backstage, I’ve never seen anyone come in and be more genuine, spend more time working on the craft for months, as well as paying respect to the wrestlers. This is one of the biggest stars in the world, and he came in to help us. He gave to the wrestling business in a way that was incredible, and I’d be remiss not to mention that.”

The Diesel had a match on Dynamite early last month, taking on Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet alongside Jade Cargill. The highlight of the match came when Cody hit the former athlete with a crossbody that saw him crash into two tables outside of the ring.

A Big Draw For Dynamite

Shaq had been calling for a match with Cody for a while and even had a bit of an altercation with Cody's wife, Brandi Rhodes, who tossed water into his face during a sitdown with Tony Schiavone.

Brandi should have been her husband's tag partner against Shaq and Cargill but pregnancy has had her step away from wrestling.

Meanwhile, Shaq has been amazing for AEW's ratings and his appearances have caused spikes in viewership. The promotion will hope to have a long relationship with the former basketball star and current TNT analyst.
