Portland Trail Blazers vs. Memphis Grizzlies: Game preview, time, TV channel, how to watch free ...

The Portland Trail Blazers and Memphis Grizzlies were originally scheduled to play back-to-back games on Jan. 20 and 22.

But those games were postponed after Memphis fell below the minimum requirement of having eight available players because of health and safety protocols.

It was probably a good thing for Portland that it didn’t play Memphis then. Guard Ja Morant had just returned from an ankle injury to lead the Grizzlies to wins over Phoenix and Philadelphia with Portland up next. The Blazers on Jan. 18 were rocked 125-104 by San Antonio in their first of 25 games without both CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic.

The postponed games against Memphis, which had won five consecutive games at the time, afforded the Blazers extra time to adjust to life without McCollum and Nurkic.

Now, McCollum and Nurkic are back in action and the Grizzlies aren’t quite as hot. Memphis has lost four of their last seven games with two victories coming against Chicago (24-34). However, the Grizzlies did defeat Milwaukie, 128-115, on Saturday.

The Grizzlies, who rank ninth in defensive rating (111.6) and 15th in offensive rating (112.9), are in eighth place in the Western Conference 3 1/2 games behind Portland and Dallas (32-26), tied for sixth.

The Grizzlies became stronger during their 117-105 loss at the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday with the return of Jaren Jackson Jr., who missed the first 56 games of the season because of a meniscus injury he suffered last August at the NBA bubble that required surgery. Jackson had 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocks in just 18 minutes at the Clippers.
