Portland Trail Blazers at Detroit Pistons: Game preview, time, TV channel, how to watch free live ...

Portland Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts keeps refusing to publicly commit to starting games with a three-guard lineup.

However, each time he has been asked about his plans he certainly sounds like a coach prepared to continue rolling with Norman Powell, Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum starting games together as the trio did Sunday during a 122-117 win over Toronto in Tampa, Fla.

When asked Tuesday about his lineup, Stotts expressed how pleased he was with how well they performed together against the Raptors just days after Powell was acquired in a trade with Toronto.

“I think we’re going to stay with it to a degree,” Stotts said. “I haven’t really talked about starting lineups against Detroit. But if you look at the numbers, even though Norman got into foul trouble, the three-guard lineup numbers were good against Toronto at both ends of the floor. So, it was positive. So, it’s something that we’ll continue using. It’s just a question of how much and, as I’ve said before, whether to start with it.”

The Blazers play at the Pistons on Wednesday.

The alternative lineup plan would involve sticking with Derrick Jones Jr. at small forward and bringing Powell off of the bench. However, doing so would limit the number of minutes the three guards would actually play together.

“The good thing about starting with it is, you know it’s going to be at least 12 minutes a half where those three guys are playing together,” Stotts said. “If you bring (Powell) off the bench, I don’t know if you get that many minutes with the three-guard lineup. But certainly, it was productive for us against Toronto and it’s something that we’ll continue using.”

Sounds very much like a coach prepared to start the three together moving forward.

How bad have things gone for the Pistons this season?

Their longest winning streak of the season is two games and it’s happened only twice.

But here is the wild part: The Pistons have victories this season over the likes of Boston (twice), Phoenix, Miami, Philadelphia, the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn.

All of those wins, however, came prior to Feb. 12. Still, the Blazers certainly can’t take the Pistons for granted.

Detroit ranks 24th in offensive rating (109.5) and a respectable 16th in offensive rating (113.1).

Forward Jerami Grant leads the team with 22.6 points per game. Guard Josh Jackson is wildly inconsistent but is averaging 12.9 points per game.

Former Blazer Mason Plumlee is averaging 10.3 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.

Blazers: F/C Zach Collins (left ankle stress fracture) is out.

Pistons: Sekou Doumbouya (head; migraine) is questionable; Wayne Ellington (right calf; soreness) is doubtful; Killian Hayes (right hip; strain), Rodney McGruder (right elbow; sprain), Jahlil Okafor (left knee; surgery) and Dennis Smith Jr. (right lumbar spine; soreness) are out.

NEXT UP (Blazers schedule)

The Blazers return home for games Friday against Milwaukee (29-17) and Saturday versus Oklahoma City (19-27).
