Winthrop went 23-1 during the regular season and rolled to a Big South Tournament title with three victories by more than 20 points. The knock on the Eagles is that they didn’t play a Power 5 conference team all year, but they have the depth of a power program.

Ten Winthrop players averaged at least 4.2 points per game this season and 11 played at least 11 minutes a game.

Villanova spent much of the season ranked among the best teams in the country before injuries began to pile up, including star guard Collin Gillespie’s torn MCL. Without Gillespie on the court, the Wildcats will lean even more heavily on sophomore forward Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, who averages 15.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
