English manager Stuart Baxter sacked by Odisha after shocking rape comments

Indian Super League side Odisha FC have fired manager Stuart Baxter after the English coach made an appalling rape analogy following a 1-0 loss against Jamshedpur.

Baxter, who has previously had stints in charge of South Africa and Finland, left his current club with little choice but to part ways after his recent controversial post-match comments.

“You need decisions to go your way and they didn’t,” Baxter told Star Sports on Sunday.

“I don’t know when we’re going to get a penalty. I think one of my players would have to rape someone or get raped himself if he was going to get a penalty.”

The shocking remarks quickly sparked outrage and Odisha acted swiftly to condemn their manager for his comments.

"The club is appalled at the comments made by head coach, Stuart Baxter during the post-match interview today," a club statement read on Twitter.

"It is completely unacceptable whatever the context and does not reflect the values of the club. We, at Odisha FC, unreservedly apologize and the club management will handle this matter internally."

Odisha then didn't take long to decide to sack Baxter, who previously played in Australia across two stints for South Melbourne.

"Odisha FC has decided to terminate head coach, Stuart Baxter's contract with immediate effect. The interim coach for the remainder of the season will be announced soon," a club statement read.

Currently last in the Indian Super League, Odisha have won just one of their first 14 games this season and next face ATK on Sunday morning (AEDT).
