Update on Randy Orton's future

The biggest surprise (in quotes) in WWE Hell in A Cell's latest Pay-Per-View (PPV) was definitely what happened in the Main Event with Randy Orton beating Drew McIntyre and becoming WWE Champion for the fourteenth time in his career.

Despite what we saw in the latest episode of WWE Raw, it's still unclear how the federation wants to deal with the reign of The Viper. In the red show, we saw Drew McIntyre attack the champion and at the same time, Bray Wyatt The Fiend intervened (without physically raging) who, between a laugh and another from Alexa Bliss, was ready to undermine the safety of the champion.

Backstage News on Randy Orton

In the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, well-known colleague Dave Meltzer explained the latest in WWE about the Legend Killer situation. Given what we saw on Monday Night Raw it's not unlikely to have a Triple Threat Match between Randy Orton, The Fiend and Drew McIntyre.

The idea, according to Meltzer, is to keep The Scottish Psychopath away from Orton and, in the event, away from possible defeat. WWE would like a rematch between Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre with the presence of the audience in the center: this seems like a sensible decision but at the same time, given the serious problems with the Pandemic, no one can know for sure when we will find the fans back in WWE.

Here are the words of Meltzer: "Right now it looks like Raw will be centered around a three-way challenge between Orton, McIntyre and The Fiend. The idea is not to make The Scottish Psychopath fail again, a situation that certainly wouldn't be good for him.

and they would like to carry on a rematch between Orton and McIntyre once fans return to watch closely. A clear victory by Randy Orton would hurt the work done in recent months on Drew McIntyre while at the moment there seem to be no plans for Keith Lee, totally forgotten by the leaders of the WWE."

Randy Orton has enjoyed an excellent 2020 so far. He had an entertaining feud with the returning Edge, which is far from finished, before bringing back his Legend Killer gimmick. He has taken Edge, Big Show, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, Christian and even RKO’d the Rated R superstar’s wife, Beth Phoenix.

Now, it is hoped Orton’s title reign leads to a third and final match against Edge, who is recovering from a torn tricep, at WrestleMania 37.
