Eddie Hearn Thinks Dana White Will Struggle With Zuffa Boxing

Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn doesn’t see Dana White being patient enough to stick with boxing.

Hearn and White have had a bit of a chummy relationship. Hearn has long expressed admiration for the UFC’s business model. Hearn understands that a system such as the UFC’s can’t work in the world of boxing. This is why he feels White may have a hard time with Zuffa Boxing.

Appearing on SiriusXM and DAZN’s The Ak and Barak Show, Hearn detailed why White may lack the patience that comes with transitioning to the boxing business.

“There’s no barriers to entry. So anybody in the world regardless of their background, their sex, their color, their faith, whatever, can enter the boxing business. It’s not like if you’re dealing with a lawyer, you’ve dealt with a guy that’s been to law school and gone through the system. You could be dealing with a used car salesman one day, you could be dealing with a former convict another day, you could be dealing with an ex-teacher the next day, you could be dealing with a lawyer.

“And that’s actually one of the beauties of boxing, is the characters that are in it. But it can become very frustrating because I can’t imagine Dana White’s patience is that long where when he’s negotiating with this former car salesman from somewhere and Dana’s going, ‘no, no listen to me. This is the opportunity.’ ‘No Dana, no.’ I think he’s just gonna pick up his desk and just sling it out of the room and go, ‘do you know what? I’m going back to MMA.'”

Hearn went on to say that he feels White will struggle dealing with boxers as opposed to MMA fighters because boxers won’t do everything they are told.

“They all do what they’re told over there [in UFC]. And one thing we know in boxing is fighters don’t do what they’re told. They have a voice, they have representation, and ultimately they will take the offers that they feel is beneficial to their career.”

Hearn did say that he wishes White well in his boxing ventures. He also said that if White sticks around, it can only do good for the sport of boxing and it’ll raise the profile of fighters.

The full interview with Eddie Hearn will air on The Ak and Barak Show tomorrow, November 10, at 1 p.m. ET. Fight fans can catch the interview on SiriusXM Fight Nation 156 or the video version on DAZN later that day.
