What Is The Status Of WWE's 205 Live?

205 Live has been around for quite some time now, having reached it's 200 episode milestone recently. But what are WWE's plans for the Cruiserweight show going forward given its relative lack of attention?

Well, it's actually good news for fans of the high-flying purple brand as there appear to be no plans to cancel the show yet, and WWE seems to have no intentions of completely merging the cruiserweight division with NXT. Instead, they are committing to continue filming it as a separate show.

They have moved the show's base to the new Capitol Wrestling Center with the show making its debut there last Friday. PWInsider have reported that the plan is to continue to film episodes from the Capitol Center going forward. Tapings are due to take place on Wednesdays as part of the weekly NXT TV tapings.

PWInsider did add that the show is now officially, more than it ever has been before, under the NXT umbrella. Although that much should've been obvious given the prominent airtime that 205 Live stars have had on the show, including the major Cruiserweight Title angle that took place leading to the crowning of Santos Escobar as the Interim champion.

Dewey Foley remains the head writer for 205 Live, but the NXT creative staff are now directing all aspects of the purple brand's show. Again, there likely won't be any change in the format of the show going forward, and everything will probably stay the same.

In terms of storylines, WWE are still waiting to pay-off the fact that Jordan Devlin is technically the Cruiserweight Champion, but because he couldn't travel during the pandemic WWE made the decision to hold a tournament to crown a new champ, which Santos Escobar eventually won.

However, it seems that payoff might be coming soon as NXT UK aired a fantastic video package for the true Cruiserweight Champion, Jordan Devlin. Although there are bigger questions that need to be asked about the Irish wrestler following the #SpeakingOut movement that are being largely ignored at the moment.

Either way, 205 Live is the home of some of WWE's best matches and guys like Mustafa Ali and Cedric Alexander were made there, so I'm glad to see it continue and I encourage anyone who wants to see fast-paced, top-quality wrestling to watch it.
