AJ Styles Confirms He Talked With AEW In 2019

For many years, AJ Styles was one of the biggest names in wrestling outside of WWE. He was Mr. Impact Wrestling for years, and then would go to make his name Japan with an excellent run with New Japan Pro Wrestling. This all made his WWE debut such a shocking ordeal, but when his friends from Japan, The Young Bucks were starting a promotion of their own, rumors swirled.

As usual with AJ Styles, this news comes from one of his Twitch Streams, something he’s been doing a lot more of as of late, likely due to not having to travel so much for his work in WWE. He’d be asked about these AEW rumors, and he would confirm them.

AJ Styles Was In Talks With All Elite Wrestling

“Yeah, there were talks. Look, it’s a business. My contract in WWE was going to expire and there were talks happening. The Bucks are my buddies,” Styles said. “We never discussed money or anything, but there were talks about coming in. Again, it’s all business.”

This lines up with plans revealed by Matt Jackson, where AEW wanted to have the debut episode of AEW Dynamite in the legendary Madison Square Garden, and having a Bullet Club reunion with AJ Styles, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson. Gallows & Anderson would have gone rogue however, and beat The Bucks bloody. Instead, we got the formation of Chris Jericho’s faction ‘The Inner Circle’.

While this AEW debut didn’t pan out for AJ Styles, it was a benefit to him in the end. He credits his talks with AEW for helping him get a significant raise within WWE, when he decided to sign a new deal with them.

There’s Always A Chance

While it’s unclear how long the contract AJ Styles signed in 2019 is for, he has proven that he is still one of the best wrestlers in the world, despite his ever increasing age. Some wrestlers seem to stick around forever, and Styles is a smart enough worker to do just that. When his current deal ends, and his friends come calling again, they might just get him to come over for a visit to their house. It won’t be the house AJ Styles built, but he’d fit in just fine.
